BRUSSELS, Belgium (September 30, 2013) -- On September 17th, the temporary committee of the European Parliament has completed its work, after almost 15 months, on Salvatore Lacolino's report (EPP, Italy) via which the committee recommends legislative measures to counteract crime, money laundering and corruption. The last proposed amendments to the report (totally 392) were complemented and adopted by 29 "in favour", 0 "against" and 8 abstentions. The interest in the document was really strong which predefined the intensive work of the committee to improve the scope of measures against corruption, organised crime and money laundering and, most of all, to take them out at EU level.

Prosecutors Rest case in Trial of Million Dollar Gambling Operation
SANFORD, Florida (September 30, 2013) -- Prosecutors rested their case Monday in the trial of a Jacksonville attorney accused of masterminding a veterans group that ran a $300 million gambling operation.

Casino Magnate Loses Libel Lawsuit
NEW YORK, NY (September 30, 2013) -- Sheldon Adelson, the billionaire casino magnate and prominent Republican donor, has lost a $60 million libel lawsuit in which he claimed a Democratic group spread a false accusation that he had condoned prostitution in his casinos in Macau, Reuters news reports.
At issue was an article published on July 3, 2012 by the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) on its website that sought to dissuade then-presidential candidate Mitt Romney and other Republicans from accepting Adelson's allegedly "dirty" and "tainted" money.

According to the Muscatine Journal, the lottery posted a record year with sales topping $339 million and transferred profits of nearly $84.9 million to the state treasury when the 2013 fiscal year ended June 30.
